River Woods Update
Hello River Woods Families!
Thank you for your patience as DMPS continues to work with the state to get a plan approved which allows us to have social distancing while providing a quality learning plan for each student.
Important Information:
- New Start Date: Tuesday, September 8th
- At this time, ALL students will be learning 100% virtually from home.
- Attendance is required for your child’s school year to count toward grade promotion.
- Your child’s daily schedule will be from 8:00-11:45 with both synchronous – live teaching and asynchronous – work on own. Live small groups will be assigned in the afternoon based on your child’s skill level and learning needs.
- The school day is finished by 3:00 PM daily and 12:30 on Wednesday.
- Families will need to have internet to access learning. We encourage families to contact Mediacom and ask for C2C for discounted rates.
- Technology, school supplies, and learning materials will be passed out at River Woods on Thursday, September 3rd from 10:00-11:30 AM or 4:30-6:30PM. Your child will need these items to start the school year.
- Once COVID numbers meet the matrix of our district plan or we are mandated to return to in person learning those who registered hybrid will be notified. Families who registered for full virtual will continue the same learning plan for the first semester – January 15th.
Helpful Tips:
Teachers are back in session tooling up to provide our students a quality virtual learning experience. Here are some tips to help you prepare your child for virtual learning from home.
- Have your student dressed, fed breakfast and ready to start class at 8:00 AM
- Computers need to be charged, have access to an electrical outlet and be connected to internet
- All school materials need to be kept in the provided learning tub for safe keeping.
- Create a consistent learning space in your home. We prefer for students to have their back to a wall to limit distractions that may be visible in your home.
- Students can be seated in a chair or on the floor with a created desk area
- No lying-in bed or eating while on live learning sessions
- Consider creating walls for your learning space using cardboard that can be covered with learning visuals to aid your child’s learning
